Welcome to our new school website

St Nicolas Primary School offers the kind of warm, caring and stimulating environment in which children aged 4 to 11 learn best.

At St Nicolas we use our beachside location, access to the local environment and strong local community to build a relevant, compelling, creative and innovative curriculum which challenges and develops its pupils. We balance our local connections with strong African links and are keen to look outside our own community both regionally, nationally and internationally.

The school fosters a feeling of inclusiveness and respect where each and every child is valued and values others. It is a safe place for pupils to reach their full potential. We have an established commitment to the the enhancement of the pupils learning using educational visits and residential trips, both of which also give the children the opportunity to grow socially and emotionally. We are proud of our sporting success and encourage children to participate in our wide range of after school clubs.

St Nicolas has a dedicated team of teachers, governors and parents who work hard together and make learning an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all our pupils.

In our experience, the best learning takes place as a result of a good partnership between home and school and we encourgae parents to play an active role in their child's learning. When we welcome a child to our school, we also welcome their parents or guardians as full partners in their education.

Don't take our word for it, come and visit - we look forward to meeting you.

Our website is still work in progress at the moment, but will be updated regularly, so please keep checking to see any new updates.

I have great pleasure in announcing that the School Governing Body have appointed a new Head Teacher for the School.

After spending time with the children, staff and governors at St Nicolas yesterday, Mr Lee Rounce was appointed and will be joining us in September.

Mr Rounce comes to us from Dunstone Primary School in Plymstock where he has been  member of the Senior Management Team since 2001. He brings with him an impressive professional development record and a keen interest in extra-curricular activities such as Junior Ten Tors and Mountain Biking.

Before September Mr Rounce will have the opportunity to consider his own strategies for the future of the School and the governors are sure that he will work well with pupils, parents, staff and governors.

Mr Trevor Caves will continue as our Executive Head until the end of August and over the coming weeks and moths he will liaise with Mr Rounce to ensure a smooth handover in September. We value and are grateful for the support and have received and continue to receive from Mr Caves and hope to nurture the links which have been created in the future.

I am confident that our new Headteacher will utilise his obvious drive and enthusiasm to take our unique school forward and into the furture

David Gibbons
Chairman of Governors
